The night I took this photo, I hiked up a hill behind our neighborhood hoping to photograph the full moon rising. However, there were clouds in the western horizon and so my hopes were dashed. But suddenly an unbelieveable lightning storm happened in the distance and so I started photographing it instead. I caught many amazing lightning bolts that night, but this one is the most intricate. And if you look carefully you can see some thin bolts shooting outward in the clouds above and to the right of the main bolt.
